Camp Hopson - How it all startedJoseph Hopson set up a decorating business in the 1850's and in 1854 he brought additional premises and started a furniture business. 1899 Joseph's two sons, Joseph jnr and Fredric carry on working in the business after the death of their father. 1920 Joseph jnr's son, Paul, marries Alfred Camp's daughter, Norah and in 1921 Camp's Drapery Bazaar and Joseph Hopson & Sons merge to form Camp Hopson & Co Ltd. 1953 Paul's eldest son, David joins the business, starting in the Haberdashery department. He later becomes the Managing Director and then Chairman of the company. 1986 David's eldest son, Jonathan joins the business and becomes the fifth generation of Hopson to work at Camp Hopson department store. 1998 After many alterations to the main department store during the 1960's and 1970's carpets, furniture and soft furnishing were relocated to the new Camp Hopson award winning Furniture Centre. Over ¼ million is in vested in extensively refurbishing the Department Store. 2004 Major redevelopment of the Department Store begins. 20,000sq ft new extension at the rear of the store, plus refurbishment of the front and the creation of two new shops, one retail the other a bank. 2005 Launch of the new first floor and most of the ground floor departments and 120-space car park. 2008 The Camp Hopson group now comprises
